Successful Kick-off of the QCI-SK-CZ-PL Project in Bratislava

The kick-off meeting of the QCI-SK-CZ-PL project took place on 21 October 2026 at the Institute of Physics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava, bringing together project partners from three neighbouring countries to discuss the project’s objectives, implementation, and next steps.

This marks the kick-off of the second of Slovakia’s two CEF-funded quantum communication infrastructure projects, following the successful launch of CEQCI. Both projects contribute to the wider European Quantum Communication Infrastructure (EuroQCI) initiative, which aims to build a secure and interoperable quantum communication infrastructure across Europe.

Slovakia’s strategic geographical location in Central Europe gives it an important role in connecting national quantum communication infrastructures and supporting cross-border cooperation with neighbouring countries. Through collaboration between partners from Slovakia, Czechia, and Poland, QCI-SK-CZ-PL will contribute to strengthening regional connectivity and advancing secure quantum communication across borders.

The event was an excellent opportunity for representatives of other CEF-funded projects from Austria, and Hungary, as well as a representative of PETRUS, to exchange experiences and share knowledge, and strengthen cooperation across the European quantum communication community. Participants who were unable to attend in person joined online. Discussions focused on topics of common interest to CEF-funded projects, including interoperability, technical integration, and cross-border connectivity, helping identify shared challenges and opportunities for collaboration within EuroQCI.

The meeting was an important first step in aligning the partners’ efforts and establishing a strong foundation for the project’s successful implementation.

The project is funded by the European Union (EU) under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) programme, with the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) responsible for managing the EU funding.
