BRATISLAVA – 24. June 2026 – The Slovak Republic has officially launched its first quantum communication infrastructure, developed under the European project Slovak Quantum Communication Infrastructure (skQCI). The project forms part of the European Quantum Communication Infrastructure (EuroQCI) initiative, which aims to establish a Europe-wide secure communication network resilient against future cyber threats, including attacks enabled by quantum […]
Last week, the long-awaited QDrive quantum memory developed by the French company Welinq arrived at the laboratories of the Institute of Physics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. As the first commercially available system of its kind, QDrive represents a significant milestone on the path toward scalable quantum communication and computing networks. The system was […]
On June 17, 2026 we actively participated in the international workshop Workshop about Experiences on Building National Quantum Communication Networks, held at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME). The event was organized within the CEQCI (Central European Quantum Communication Infrastructure) project, which brings together partners from Slovakia, Austria, Hungary, and Romania to coordinate the development and […]
PARIS & BRATISLAVA – 13. Januar 2026 – Welinq announces the sale of QDrive, its commercial record-breaking quantum memory product, with the Institute of Physics, Slovak Academy of Sciences, as part of the Slovak quantum communication infrastructure. Just two years after the start of its development, QDrive has progressed from advanced research to product-grade, commercial quantum memory. Designed, industrialized, and brought to market in a record time, QDrive’s first commercial sale marks a key […]
KOŠICE – 11 December 2025 – The first commercial quantum-secured communication link in Slovakia, connecting Košice and Prešov, was officially inaugurated today at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice. This marks a historic milestone in building the national quantum communication infrastructure and represents the first fully operational component of the Slovak network that forms part of […]
Partnering with the Slovak Academy of Sciences, IonQ bolsters national security and European quantum communications infrastructure
A colloQUTE lecture by Branislav Jansík presented the LUMI-Q VLQ and its role in Europe’s hybrid quantum–HPC ecosystem, outlining practical access opportunities and sparking an active discussion among a diverse audience of researchers, students, and technology professionals.
Anton Zeilinger, a pioneer of quantum communication, became renowned for his research on quantum entanglement, quantum state teleportation, and practical applications of quantum cryptography. His experiments laid the foundation for quantum networks and global quantum-secured communication. Collaborations with Slovak physicists and projects demonstrate how his work inspires the development of quantum technologies in Central Europe.
We presented the skQCI project at QCI Connect 2025 on September 16–17, 2025, in Tallinn, where national quantum communication projects from across Europe gathered to exchange experiences and strengthen collaboration toward a secure, interconnected quantum future.
On June 30, 2025, the Institute of Physics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences had the honor of hosting Olivier Ezratty, an international expert in quantum technologies, consultant, and author of the extensive publication Understanding Quantum Technologies.
