Mini-Workshop on Superconductivity 2024: New Impulses in Quantum Materials Research
At the end of April, the QUTE Auditorium at the Institute of Physics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava hosted a two-day Mini-Workshop on Superconductivity, which brought together experts and students interested in the modern challenges of quantum materials physics. The event took place on April 29–30, 2024, focusing on topics such as superconductivity, altermagnetism, correlated systems, and transport in layered materials.
Organized by Denis Kochan and František Herman, the workshop was designed as an open platform for professional exchange as well as pedagogical discussion. The lectures were structured to be accessible to master’s and PhD students, fostering connections between generations of researchers.
The main highlights of the program included:
• the superconducting diode effect and spin–orbit interaction,
• new insights into altermagnetism as the third state of magnetic matter,
• the study of Majorana bound states in superconductor–semiconductor hybrids,
• transport and topological phenomena in van der Waals and hyperbolic structures.
Discussions took place in an informal and stimulating atmosphere, with coffee breaks serving as opportunities for new connections and the exchange of research ideas.
The workshop was made possible thanks to the support of the IMPULZ project IM-2021-26 SuperSpin, which enabled the organization of this inspiring meeting.
The Mini-Workshop on Superconductivity 2024 demonstrated that even small-scale events can provide a strong scientific impulse and help shape the future of research.
